The Future of Growing: Vertical Farming

The Future of Growing: Vertical Farming

Vertical farming or vertical agriculture is a term that we hear more often when we talk about LED grow lights And sustainability. But this technique has much more in its march than sustainable growing, it can be the answer to the food shortages that we know here on earth. Do you want to know how and why? Then read on!

The advantages

Vertical agriculture is extremely efficient because you only use 1x percent of the water of what we use with normal agriculture.  A big advantage is that washed locally can grow so that no more thousands of kilometers have to be covered to get the lettuce on your plate. As a result, fewer exhaust gases come into the atmosphere and transport costs become significantly less.

No pesticides are needed and that is good for humans and animals. There are indications that, among other things, pesticides have caused bee mortality. It is also no longer necessary to modify crops to make them resistant to diseases because the environment can be checked in detail.
The research into even better LED grow lights is better encouraged by the growth of Vertical Farming, resulting in even more effective LED grow lights.

Finally, less land is needed to be able to renovate vertically and you do not have to edit the country with fertilizer. This is good because due to excessive use of fertilizer, the manure can enter the groundwater or in rivers and lakes. This allows algae to get the upper hand and make the water oxygen -poor and as a result, dead zones where little life is possible. Finally, it is possible to renovate all year round because you are not dependent on the seasons.

The cons

It is of course not only rose scent and moonshine, because despite the fact that Vertical Farming is more efficient than traditional agriculture, the energy costs ensure that it is not yet cheaper. A lot of research is currently being done into ways to reduce these costs. It is also necessary to think carefully about the application of vertical farming in local communities. Many good experts are also needed in this area, so university studies are needed. This is being worked on and hopefully we will have enough in a few years  Experts walk around in Europe to make Vertical Farming a success.
