LED lighting against food scarcity

LED lighting against food scarcity

The world population is growing rapidly. So quickly that experts expect that in 2050 we will live on this earth with no fewer than 9 billion people. We are currently with 6 billion, and a 50% growth will result in a food shortage in the long term.

Grow vegetables with LED

How is this possible?

The problem is simple, because there is too little room in the form of agricultural land to meet the food needs. After all, with an increasing population, the amount of agricultural land will decrease. Most plant species need sunlight to grow and give up their fruits (vegetables/fruit). One is an exhaustive amount of surface that we can fill on this earth. This area is not expected to be large enough to meet that food need.

The solution

The solution is simple but causes a number of problems. We will have to stack, in other words, we have to go up. We can do this through constructions of glass walls, but the problem remains that the sunlight cannot shine on top of the plants. Current light constructions in agriculture and horticulture do not work when we think in height. You get flats from crops. There is currently 1000 watts and 2000 watts high pressure sodium and radium lamps. The power consumption is so large that it is not possible to deliver affordable products without the sun. Such high pressure lamps can be replaced by LED lighting, which can save up to 75% of energy.
In this way it is possible to artificially imitate the desired season. This ensures that plants continue to grow regardless of the season.

Applicable everywhere

Good products are essential to make such projects possible. LED fixtures, for example, must and must contain the right light spectrum at a high humidity level (IP65). With the right light mix, geographical and climatic conditions no longer have to be a problem with the breeding of flowers, plants, vegetables and fruit. Imagine that vacant office buildings can be filled with edible crops, great right?

How can we contribute to this?

We work together with multiple party to come up with solutions that can answer such questions for the future. We are constantly developing to make our products of even higher quality. In this way we hope to contribute to a future -proof world.
